How to Get Faster Replies to Your Emails – email efficiency

Email Efficiency – Get Quick Responses with Clear Subject Lines

Here’s a handy time saver for you and for the recipients of your emails. In the subject line of your message, instead of putting a general topic, clearly state your question or what you’d like the recipient to do next. Examples:

  • Instead of “Anderson project”, use “Please send me the Anderson drawings. Thanks.”
  • Instead of “Status of our recent proposal” use “Do you have a decision on this? Thanks.”

In many cases you don’t need to add anything (other than your automatic signature or forwarding a previous email) to the body of your message. Another subject line tip – after you complete a task that was requested by email, simply reply in the subject line with one word’¦ Done. It takes about 5 seconds, let’s the other person know that their request was completed, and positions you as someone who follows up. Not bad for one word.

Today’s chuckle:

To think too long about doing a thing, often becomes its undoing.
