One sentence to inspire an employee – Empowering Leadership
Empowering Leadership: How a Simple Phrase Inspires Teams
“My boss would say one thing that motivated me to do my best…” This was a manager attending a workshop I conducted for De Dutch Pannekoek House Restaurants on motivating teams to become more customer-focused. I’d ask participants to recall who was the best boss they ever had, and what he or she had done to make such an impression. The manager recalled the former boss would say something that consistently motivated him to perform at his best, “After discussing an issue or goal, he’d finish with, ‘I’ll leave it in your capable hands.‘” As he recounted this, I noticed several other managers in that seminar taking note of that phrase. It’s amazing how such a brief statement can convey trust in someone’s judgement while empowering them with the responsibility and authority to take action.
Today’s chuckle:
Intelligence is like underwear, everyone has it but you don’t have to show it off.
