Offer Less and Sell More
The conventional wisdom about attracting customers is offer a wide selection. Unfortunately, while large selection may attract potential buyers – it often prevents them from actually making a purchase. Columbia University researchers confirmed this when offering samples of jam. One display offered samples of 6 flavours of jam. In a second dispaly the offered 24. The 24 sample display attracted 50% more people. However, the 6 jam display translated into over 7 times as many sales! It seems when it comes to choice today’s customers are indeed overwhelmed. Is it possible that you could offer less and sell more?
