One sentence to inspire an employee
“My boss would say one thing that motivated me to do my best…” This was a manager attending a workshop I was doing for De Dutch Pannekoek House Restaurants on inspiring a team to become even more customer-focused. I’d ask participants to recall who was the best boss they ever had, and what he or she had done to make such an impression. The manager went on to say of his best boss, “…After discussing an issue or goal, he’d finish with, ‘I’ll leave it in your capable hands.'” I noticed several other managers in that seminar writing that phrase down. It’s amazing how that short statement conveys not only that you trust their judgment, but that you are also giving them the authority to do what needs to be done.
